August – Planned memorial to the late Cllr David J Lloyd of Gobowen Station

Plans are being made for a memorial to the late David J Lloyd of Gobowen Station.
For over 20 years his name was synonymous with the Chester to Shrewsbury railway until his untimely death last year. However to many he was their local councillor serving as a member of Whittington Parish Council, then on to Oswestry Borough Council and Shropshire County Council. Despite his total commitment to his community he also found great pleasure in his work with the Cambrian Railway Trust and as a Rotarian.

Many of these organisations have joined forces to establish a memorial to David at Gobowen station.  Sheila Dee, Community Rail Officer for the Chester-Shrewsbury line commented ‘For so many years David was the driving force for improvements to the rail service in this area and he was delighted when the improvements came and was overjoyed to learn of the plans to run a direct London service along this line. We are coordinating this memorial project and any members of the public and/or organisation who wish to donate to the project can do so by sending donations to Martin Stevens at Legal and Democratic Services, Shropshire County Council Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury SY2 6ND, cheques should be made payable to Shropshire County Council’.

Further details of the memorial will be released in due course.
